The Museum & Hall of Fame will engage visitors by presenting the extraordinary global history of skydiving and showcasing the ongoing advances of our ever-changing sport. It will feature those who have made extraordinary contributions to skydiving as recognized by their having been inducted into the International Skydiving Hall of Fame.
It is designed to be EXCITING, ENGAGING AND IMMERSIVE and include –
THE FIRST WINGSUIT WIND TUNNEL IN THE UNITED STATES
Next door to the Museum & Hall of Fame will be the second wingsuit wind tunnel in the world. Not only will this allow some of the world's best to hone their skills, it will also let first-timers, non-skydivers and children experience wingsuit flight. https://indoorwingsuit.com/
STATE-OF-THE-ART VERTICAL WIND TUNNEL
Co-located with the Museum & Hall of Fame.
MASSIVE VIDEO WALL
The “Pre-Flight Atrium” will have an immense video wall featuring skydiving videos that will be visible through the glass window wall of the atrium at great distance.
A VIRTUAL FLIGHT IN A JUMP PLANE
Visitors will begin their visit in a unique custom-designed elevator called the Flight to Altitude which will be configured to replicate a jump plane ascending to jump altitude.
AN IMMERSIVE FIRST VIRTUAL SKYDIVE
As visitors exit the Flight to Altitude they will find themselves on the tailgate of a jump plane then in visual freefall as they enter a theater with coordinated video images below and around them.
ONE VIRTUAL SKYDIVE AFTER ANOTHER
Virtual reality goggles throughout the Museum that will allow visitors to experience what is being presented in each exhibit including the thrill of being in skydiving records, high-performance swoops and formation wingsuiting!
THE FULL HISTORY OF SKYDIVING
The history of skydiving from the year 1100 to today will be presented in five distinct eras.
THE MILITARY CONNECTION
A special exhibit called The Military Connection will present the history of military parachuting and pay tribute to the enormous contributions military jumping has made to civilian skydiving and the same in reverse.
COMPETITIVE SKYDIVING BROUGHT TO LIFE
The competitive elements of skydiving will come alive using touchscreen technology to present the results of all major competitions in all disciplines in the history of the sport.
RECORDS … FROM SMALL TO LARGE, FROM YESTERDAY TO TODAY
Photos, videos and information on every national and world record set in the history of skydiving will also be presented using touchscreen technology.
STRATOSPHERIC RECORDS
A special part of the Records & Competition gallery will be a spectacular exhibit on skydives from space that includes full-scale reproductions of suits and gear used for the jumps.
THE GIANTS OF SKYDIVING
Members of the International Skydiving Hall of Fame will be presented in an interactive exhibit that allows visitors to learn about these amazing individuals and their extraordinary contributions to the sport.
(ALMOST) THE REAL THING
Visitors will be able to experience a state-of-the-art virtual parachuting and skydiving experience. One system under consideration would allow visitors to make a virtual jump that they control onto any point on the globe.
“SO YOU WANT TO MAKE YOUR FIRST JUMP.”
Visitors will be able to try on the gear they would use on their first skydive and get a preview of the jump using virtual reality, whether it is tandem, AFF or static line.
“I’M READY. WHERE DO I GO?”
An interactive map will allow visitors to locate drop zones all over the world and provide information on how to contact them.
IMAGES THAT EXCITE
The Skydiving Photography & Videography exhibit will present the history of skydiving through an extraordinary and massive collection of photos, film and video utilizing digital technology to preserve and present a nearly infinite number of images and film and video footage.
MAKING LEARNING FUN
Skydiving will be used to teach fun science lessons to children, school groups and adults in the Professor Skydive exhibit.
USING SKYDIVING TO TEACH
STEM certification (science, technology, engineering and math) will be pursued to enhance the appeal of the museum to school groups. An on-site classroom will provide a place for school groups to gather before and after they experience the exhibits.
NEW AND DIFFERENT
A gallery for rotating and temporary exhibits will allow more of the Museum’s collection to be displayed. Temporary exhibits may include subjects such as detailed presentations of critical eras and developments for certain skydiving disciplines, the history of the altimeter, the history of cut-away devices, the history of automatic activation devices, and more.
SKYDIVING IN THE MOVIES
Visitors will be able to view some of the most memorable skydiving scenes from Hollywood then learn from the stunt professionals who created them how they were shot, the special challenges, what was real and what was not.
HANGIN’ IN THE HANGAR
Visitors will conclude their visit in a hangar-like those at countless drop zones. There will be skydiving videos playing, comfortable couches to lounge in, food service for a snack and a store where they can find gifts, shirts, hats and other reminders of their visit.
RACK OF MEMORIES
Some of the Museum’s extensive collection of jump gear will be available in the Hangar for visitors young and old to touch, inspect and try on.
EVENT SPACE
The Hangar and an outdoor creeper pad that includes aircraft exit mock-ups will be available along with the rest of the Museum and the iFLY wind tunnel to provide a unique setting for receptions, team building, and customer events for outside organizations.
THE FULL EXPERIENCE
The Museum & Hall of Fame will be the center of the SkydiveXperience which will include Indoor Wingsuit Orlando and a site for a state-of-the-art wind tunnel.
