Yasuhiro Kubo
Yasuhiro Kubo is widely regarded as the most accomplished skydiver in Asia, with a career spanning more than four decades and an unmatched resume across disciplines. Born on June 24, 1962, and raised in Ōme City, Tokyo, Yasu began his skydiving journey at the age of 20 while attending Meisei University. Since that first jump, he has amassed over 15,000 skydives, including more than 5,000 camera jumps, and completed over 650 BASE jumps.
Yasu’s expertise stretches across nearly every modern skydiving discipline: formation skydiving, skysurfing, freeflying, canopy formation, canopy swooping, wingsuit flying, BASE jumping, and aerial photography. He holds multiple USPA and international ratings, including AFF Instructor/Examiner, Tandem Instructor, and Safety & Training Advisor, along with licenses such as SCS (Formation), CCS (Canopy Formation), AD (Freefly), and BASE qualifications.
Throughout his career, Yasu has represented Japan in the International Parachuting Commission (IPC) and served as meet director for the 2000 World Championships in Style & Accuracy, held in Japan. Domestically, he has claimed multiple Japan National Championships titles in both 4-way and 8-way formation skydiving, with national victories spanning from 1988 to 1996. He has also been a teammate in numerous world record formation skydives, including the 216‑way, 284‑way, 300‑way, and the historic 400‑way formation.
Beyond the competition field, Yasu has contributed significantly to the sport’s visibility through media, commercial projects, and stunt performances. His collaborations have included work with G-Shock, Red Bull, the X-Games, and other internationally recognized brands. He has served as both performer and producer, combining his skydiving mastery with his skill as a professional aerial photographer and creative director.
Yasu is admired not only for his technical ability and diverse accomplishments, but also for his generosity in mentoring young jumpers. He is known for his passion, humility, and infectious enthusiasm, making him a source of inspiration for students, seasoned jumpers, and world-record teams alike.
