Muriel Simbro, known as skydiving’s first lady, was the first woman in the U.S. to earn a D license; she was the leader of the first full women’s team that the U.S. supported winning the 1962 World Parachuting Championships and the first U.S. woman to win a gold medal in a world meet. She received the Helms Athlete of the Year Award, a national award that recognized excellence in amateur athletics. She also appeared on the TV show “To Tell the Truth.”
