Museum Trustee Lee Schlichtemeier honored by USPA with Lifetime Achievement Award

International Skydiving Museum Board of Trustee Treasurer, Alvin Lee Schlichtemeier, has been awarded the 2016 USPA Lifetime  Achievement Award in recognition of his unwavering dedication to USPA’s financial well-being and wise counsel as a career-long USPA board member. Lee made his first jump in 1989 and has almost 500 jumps. He’s an active national and international competition judge.  He was chief judge of the 2016 USPA National Canopy Piloting Championships. He served as US team leader for the World Style & Accuracy Parachuting Championships in Vrsar, Croatia, in 1998, and was on the 2012 (Dubai), 2014 (USA) and 2015 (Canada) World Canopy  Piloting Championships judging  panels. Along with his wife Carol, they owned and operated the largest skydiving operation in the Dallas, Texas area from 1991 until they sold it earlier this year. Skydive Dallas hosted the 1995 USPA National Style & Accuracy and Canopy Formation Championships. Lee joined USPA’s board of directors in 1997 as the Southwest Regional Director and began serving as its treasurer two years later. As a board member, he served on several committees until he left the board in 2013 when he decided not to run again.  He joined the Skydiving Museum’s board of trustees in 2012 when he also took on the position of treasurer.  Fellow museum trustee, USPA Lifetime Achievement Award  {2010) honoree and USPA Executive Director Emeritus Christopher J. Needels said, “Lee is everything a not-for-profit board of directors and a chief staff executive needs – a clear thinking, analytical, fiscally responsible, wise counsel – and USPA could not have gone through the economic roller coaster ride of the 1990s and early 2000s, and built a new headquarters, without him.” Congratulations Lee!
