We have exciting news to share with all those who are helping us move towards presenting the International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame to the world. The Board of Trustees has announced that we will break ground on the building within 18 months.
Based on significant support received from the skydiving community and industry, we are in a position to move forward within 18 months to break ground on the International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame. In reaction to changing market conditions, iFLY has shelved its plans to build a third wind tunnel in central Florida. Consequently, the International Skydiving Museum & Hall of Fame will not be co-located with an iFLY tunnel in North Orlando.
As a result, the museum is seeking other opportunities at a new site to be determined. We anticipate significant interest from numerous entities to collaborate with the Museum & Hall of Fame to create a high-interest destination.
In the meantime, we fully intend to continue collecting artifacts and memorabilia as well as continuing to fulfill our commitment to facility design, fundraising and the Hall of Fame. We are actively engaged in evaluating alternatives as we maintain our strong momentum.
Q & A
What happened to iFLY?
While they would still like to be part of the project, due a change in market conditions, their timing no longer aligns with ours.
Will there still be a tunnel?
It remains our intent to co-locate with a state-of-the-art vertical wind tunnel. We are exploring a variety of means to do so.
What size will the tunnel be?
14 to 16 feet.
When will you break ground?
We are moving forward aggressively with a target of breaking ground in 18 months.
Where will the Museum be located?
Due to the change in plans, we are exploring a number of opportunities to locate elsewhere. Determining the location of the Museum is now the number one priority of the Museum board.
Will you build without a wind tunnel?
While we strongly prefer to co-locate with a wind tunnel, we are prepared to present a first-rate visitor experience with a free-standing Museum & Hall of Fame.
